Carter Nielson Stephens, or "Niel" as he was known to most, passed away on October 22, 2023, at Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance, Wyoming at the age of 88. Niel was born on November 9, 1934 in Spearfish, South Dakota to L.D. and AnnaBelle (Nielsen) Stephens. He was raised with his younger brother, Pete, in Alva, Wyoming. Their mother taught at various rural schools, so that is where Niel got his early education. He went on to graduate from Hulett High School. In 1957, he was drafted into the Army. Loren Christensen, 75 of Spearfish, South Dakota, was born on December 27, 1947, in Deadwood, South Dakota and passed away on October 25, 2023. He attended grade school in Buffalo and White River, South Dakota. His sophomore year, his family moved to Spearfish to take over the family ranch. Hulett hosted the regional tournament lady Friday and Saturday. Hulett took on Guernsey but fell short, 23-25,25-12,20-25, 23-25. Their next matchup was Kaycee and the lady Devils redeemed themselves, 25-12, 25/18, 25-12.
