Mary Ellen McAdam

Mary Ellen McAdam, age 97, of Stover, Missouri passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 at her home, where she resided for the past five years with Merna and Jim Boyd.

It was on the 5th of August, 1926 that Jesse Andrew and Cassie Margaret (Grey) Clausen welcomed their daughter, Mary Ellen, into their home in Martin, South Dakota. She grew up helping on the family farm; one of her many chores was milking the cows. Her father gave her the nickname "Swede" which stuck with her throughout her childhood.

Mary Ellen and Justus K. Westover were married in 1946; two stepsons and seven children were welcomed into this family. The family worked in the farming and cattle industry in South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. Later in life, the marriage ended but they remained friends until his death.

She worked as a cook for many years at the State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

She was united in marriage to Claude (Rusty) McAdam on June 27, 1981 in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

One of her favorite pastimes was to cook and bake goodies for her family. At Christmas her goodies were always gifts for everyone.

She also liked spending time boating and fishing with Rusty and doing needle work in her spare time. The thing Mary enjoyed most was spending time with her family, sisters and her grandchildren.

Left to carry on her legacy are her six children, Lois Jones of Whitehall, Montana, Penny Gossel of Torrington, Wyoming, Justine Reid and husband John of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Merna Boyd and husband Jim of Stover, Clayton Westover of Moorcroft, Wyoming and Clinton Westover and wife Ida "Twitter" of Moorcroft; 76 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; her daughter, Ramona Burley; two sons, Jerry and Keith Westover; three grandchildren, Audrey Westover, Frank and Alden Jones; four brothers, Virgil Clausen, William Clausen, Leonard Clausen and Everett Clausen; five sisters, Rae Dean Dunsmore, Cora Pond, Marjorie Shaffer, Anna Leora Heath and Verla Thayer. Mary was the last of nine siblings to pass.

A graveside service was held at Black Hill Cemetery on Monday, August 28.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
